West Littleton War Memorial
The Memorial is a marble plaque on the inside of the south wall of the Church of St. James, West Littleton, Gloucestershire, England
The inscription reads as follows :-
TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN MEMORY

LANCE CORPORAL GRENADIER GUARDS
KILLED IN ACTION AT LOOS, OCTOBER 17th 1915
ALSO OF THOMAS WILLIAM MATHLIN
PRIVATE, ROYAL AIR FORCE
DIED OCTOBER 31st 1918
BOTH OF THIS PARISH
THIS TABLET WAS ERECTED AS A THANK OFFERING
FOR HIS SAFE RETURN BY THE PARENTS OF

Some notes on the memorial :-
Lance Corporal William Robert Strange served in the 4th Bn. Grenadier Guards and died on Sunday 17th October 1915 aged 21 yrs. He has no known grave but is commemorated on the LOOS MEMORIAL, Pas de Calais, France. He was the son of Alfred Henry and Augusta Mary Strange of West Littleton.
Private 2nd Class Thomas William Mathlin served in the Royal Air Force and died on Thursday 31st October 1918 aged 43 yrs. He is buried in WEST LITTLETON (ST JAMES) CHURCHYARD. He was the husband of E D Mathlin of West Littleton.
